Natasha first graduated nursing school and became a Registered Nurse at the age of 20. Her first nursing job was working in the Postpartum Unit caring for mothers after delivery. She worked there, and the Newborn Nursery for a year before moving into a position on the Labor & Delivery Unit. Knowing that you need 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience before applying to Midwifery school, Natasha continued to work full time in Labor & Delivery as she simultaneously continued her education receiving a Bachelors In Science and Nursing Degree from CSUDH and a Masters in Science and Nursing at USC, where she completed the dual Nurse Midwifery/Nurse Practitioner Program .
Natasha's first job as a Certified Nurse Midwife was in private practice at UCLA Medical Center. She was offered a position to work with 2 amazing doctors that took her under their wings and continued to provide additional training and support to help her grow in this profession. She was the first Midwife at UCLA in private practice and had the experience of writing all of the hospital policies & procedures which was an incredible learning experience. Additionally, due to the nature of UCLA being a teaching hospital and her back up physicians being such great teachers, she learned more then just the basic scope of practice. She was trained in providing infertility, ultrasound for pregnancy and infertility treatment, as a first assist for cesarean sections and tubal ligations, performing circumsisions, and given the opportunity to deliver twins and a breech birth with her supervising physician at her side. She was given the freedom to provide as natural of childbirth as one could hope for in a hospital setting as well as the ability to medicate patients when desired or induce if the time became necessary.
Also while at UCLA, Natasha taught childbirth education classes as well as led public infertility information classes educating and empowering soon to be parents.
The experience Natasha received in infertility treatment at UCLA led to her being offered a full time position at Kaiser as a midwife and a part of their Infertility Team. Natasha worked at Kaiser for approximately 8 years where she provided infertility care, prenatal care, delivered babies, saw patients for postpartum visits and continued annual gyn visits with them. Due to the nature of how busy Kaiser is and the scope of practice that the midwives are given there, Natasha not only managed her midwifery patients but also co-managed higher risk patients with attending doctors and has assisted in almost every kind of obstetrical emergency that you can think of providing valuable experience and insight in the care of normal mothers and the ability to recognize abnormal and consult appropriate provider for the patients needs.
After the death of her parents, Natasha took time off of being a midwife to make sense of taking care of the family business (management & real estate). During the time she took off from working in a hospital, Natasha noticed that her personal health began to improve and was able to make a lot of positive changes in her personal life with regards to her own health and well being. She decided to continue to work to grow her real estate investing business while she continued to work on her own health and happiness......which is where the yoga comes into the story.
Natasha first registered a 200 hour teacher training because she noticed that when she came to yoga, she not only physically felt stronger, she mentally felt clearer, calmer, more focused and maybe even a little happier. In this endeavor to focus on her own health, she wanted to explore why yoga had these effects on her and dive a little deeper into her own practice. She had no intention of teaching yoga or opening a yoga studio....although sometimes, that doesn't really matter because the universe has a plan of its own. Teaching came easy for her, as both of her parents were Olympic and National level gymnastics instructors. Natasha essentially grew up in a gym, as she briefly competed in rythmic gymnastics and taught gymnastics and mommy & me classes throughout the later years in high school. Yoga to her almost felt full circle bringing her back in touch with her roots.
Natasha found a way to use her real estate and business background to create a business that she loves.....Beach Cities Yoga. Her focus when opening the studio was creating a space and a community that is fun, supportive, nurturing for people to work on both their physical, mental and emotional health. Teaching prenatal yoga is her favorite because she gets to apply all of the knowledge and experience that she took from being a midwife into helping pregnant mommies work on their own health, mental and emotional well being throughout their pregnancies. Each prenatal class starts with a few minutes for the moms to check in with each other, talk about what changes their going through, offer support to the moms that need it, and create a safe place for the expectant moms to be.
Using all of her training and experience as a retired nurse and midwife, along with her experience as a yoga instructor with a keen understanding of anatomy and physiology and pregnancy, Natasha hopes to assist mothers throughout their pregnancy and birth experience so that they have the best experience and outcome as possible. Natasha educates as a tool of empowerment creating a foundation to make educated choices with regard to your and your babies health. Natasha not only supports the mothers in labor but also teaches the partners how to support the pregnant mommy as well. Natasha mission is to improve the health and happiness with each family that she works with.
